new and fancy

Hey! Check it out! Homegirl made her first blog banner! Yeaaaaaah it looks pretty sweet slash 2/3 of the photos are mildly humiliating but I love it anyway. You should too. Sometimes I get real crafty with photo-editing tools.

My days are all thrown off from Monday's holiday. I can't believe it's Wednesday already. WEDNESDAY, PEOPLE! Where does the time go?

Oh, and onto something completely, 100 percent serious. The House of Representatives voted 240-185 to cut federal funding for the federal family planning program and to strip Planned Parenthood of all of its federal funding. This is beyond atrocious. Many people think Planned Parenthood simply does abortions (and this is why federal funding has been cut), but this is far from the case. According to this article in today's Washington Post, only three percent of the services provided by Planned Parenthood are for abortions. But that other 97 percent? Let's talk about that.

Thirty-five percent of Planned Parenthood's services go to providing contraceptives, 17 percent to cancer screening and prevention, and 34 percent to STD testing. And for people who have lower incomes who can't afford or simply don't have health insurance, losing this valuable resource could be detrimental to their health.

Now, I know that not everyone is completely supportive of Planned Parenthood, but just take a moment to read that Washington Post article. And maybe take a moment out of your day to sign the letter to Congress. Speak out.
