workout. grrrrrrrrr.

My middle niece, E, likes to pretend she works out. She's 2. So she'll come up to you, put her arms up by her ears like she's making a muscle, and say, "Workout! Grrrrrrrr!" It's cute. I'll try to get a video sometime for you.

But speaking of workouts, I've been trying out a new one myself lately. It's called Pure Barre. Have you done it? I know Shannon has. I had been thinking about doing it when the studio opened up here, and after a few emails, she pushed me over the edge and into the studio. As did my friend Becca, since she agreed to be my partner in crime exercise friend/motivator. So off we went on Saturday morning.
Alright, so here's the deal. I like to think I'm in pretty good shape. I run, do my cardio, lift weights, go to yoga. You know, exercise things. Pure Barre told me I'm a liar and that my ass needed to be sufficiently kicked. Well, damn. It's all small, concentrated movements that work different areas of your body. So by the end of class, you've worked out everything from your arms to your back to your bum to your abs. Everything was in some sort of pain Sunday morning.
But it was so amazing. They say in class that they work your muscles to the point of exhaustion and then stretch them out for that long and lean look. And I believe them. My legs were shaking at the barre, but apparently the trembling is a good thing. And then they got stretched and ooooooh did it feel good.
All in all, I think it's a great whole body workout. Such a good workout that both Becca and I bought unlimited month passes. So I've been back a bunch of times. The goal is to look like a Victoria's Secret model by the time my month is up. Good goal, right?

Just kidding. But it's a fun thing to do. It's a hot class and you sweat a lot, but the music is upbeat and the teachers (well, the two I've had) are super friendly and don't yell. I hate teachers who yell. See here. But if you're in the area and want to give it a shot, hit a sistah up. I'll go with you :)

This also gives me an awesome excuse to go hit up my local Lululemon and buy lots of fabulous new clothes. And because I'm obsessed with Lululemon. And I'm in dire need of new sports attire in general. Too many t-shirts and shorts. Not enough pants and tanks.

Oh, and for your reading pleasure, Jason Mraz has a blog. And his writing is as remarkable as his music. You're welcome. And here's my favorite song of his. Evaaaaah.

  2. I'm so jealous that you do Pure barre. We don't have one around here, and I would SO do that workout if it was around, or if I had the time.

I do have a treadmill in my house, and my 3 year old always wants to "run" with me. Let's just say a few accidents have happened so far.

    Enjoy your pure barre!
