happy ending

Has anyone listened to Mika before? I feel like I'll either get resounding "No's" or "Pshhhhh Alex. Girl. Where have you been? OF COURSE I listen to Mika." Either way, I think his music is phenomenal. There's something about his voice. And specifically, this song.
I first heard this song in the summer of 2008, when I lived in D.C. and went to Georgetown and had, easily, the best summer of my life. And this song always brings me back to every emotion I felt there. The amazing times we all had, how quickly we all fell into each other's laps, feeling as though we had been friends forever rather than meeting just a few weeks before. But things can't always stay the same. We only had eight short weeks with each other. And then things changed.

We lived that summer loving life like it could last forever. Because that's all we knew. We only knew life in its very instances.

Every time I listen to it, I feel a swell of emotion. Everything I felt in that summer comes back in a six minute song (the album version is longer than the video version). It surprises me, how three years later (yeah class of '08. It's been three years) I can still feel so strongly about an experience, a group of people and a song.

  2. Isn't it strange how a song can instantly transport you to another place, another time.. another feeling. It's incredible. It's one of the reasons I love music so much. It transcends everything else..
