running essentials

In honor of one of my favorite holidays, today's post is running-themed. In Massachusetts, Patriots Day is a big deal. There's a daytime Red Sox game, schools are on April vacation and a butt ton of people descend upon our fair city to run 26.2 miles. I love Marathon Monday.

So here are some of my running essentials that I feel I need for the 2012 racing season...
1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6

1 | Nike Pro Combat V-Neck | Crew necks make me feel restricted, so I prefer scoop necks or v-necks. This shirt whicks away sweat and comes in a bunch of bright colors. I have this shirt in pink, and Craig could easily spot me during my race as I crossed the finish line among 6,000 other runners yesterday. Win!

2 | Emi-Jay Hair Ties | These hair ties look adorable on your wrist, and come in a rainbow of colors. If there's one thing I love about racing, it's being the brightest person there. All the way down to my hair tie. They also rarely snag my hair. Love love love.

3 | Gap's Medium Impact Sports Bra | This bra. I have it in the basic colors, but I think I desperately need it in the bright colors too. It keeps me tucked in without making my ribs feel crushed. There's nothing worse than working out in the wrong sports bra. Nothing. Worse.

4 | Lululemon's Run: A Marathon Skirt | Gimme this skirt. Gimme gimme gimme. This is the one thing on my list that I actually do not own (yet). It has spandex shorts underneath, so it's actually a skort. But the fun cutouts give a sweet peak-a-boo of color. And there's something about running in pretty things that makes me want to run faster. Gimme this skirt.

5 | Nike Anti-Blister Lightweight Low-Cut Sock | I got these socks in a gift bag at a running event last week and wore them for a long run and my race. They're cushy without being squishy and have designated left and right feet. The back tongue cushions your heal, and I didn't get a single blister through 11.5 miles of running. Win.

6 | Nike Free 3.0 V4 | I did not intend to buy these shoes. I had no intention of buying another pair of running shoes until summer. But I got a coupon and...well...ended up with these sneakers. I love my Frees. I've worn them for over a year and rarely get blisters and never feel ankle pain. I tried these on and it felt like walking on clouds. So they came home with me. Whoops.

What do you work out in?

Good luck to all of the Marathoners today!!

  1. I love those drifit shirts - they're almost the only thing I run in. And I've heard about the Emi-Jay hair ties, so I'm thinking I need to try one out. They actually have that exact same fabric for them at the fabric store - much cheaper make them yourself :)

  7. I love the marathon skirt. I'm not much of a runner but that alone might be enough to get me out on the street!

  8. I'm so sad! I have a stress fracture from running and can't run for far too long! I'm hoping there's something I can do to prevent them because I've been wanting to try the Nike Frees!

  9. I desperately need some new tennis shoes. Mine are starting to tear at the toes! I really wish I was a runner, but I have weak ankles. And bad knees. And ruptured discs in my back. . . so I guess I'll stick to the elliptical.

  12. Those shoes are adorable, especially the perfect minty green color. I've recently become pretty enthralled with Old Navy's work out leggings which is great as they are soooooo much cheaper than other brands.

  13. That marathon skirt is to die for! When I sign up for my first marathon, I think I'll feel pretty damn good about dishing out a chunk of money on lululemon!
