recently

Recently I've been reading some new things, watching some new things and listening to some new things. I thought I'd share them with you.

I know, I'm far too kind.

Reading.
{buy me}
I read Bloom in under a week. I just couldn't put it down. I was captivated by Kelle's writing, her story and just how strong she's been. Her writing is just stunning and its so raw and brutally honest that it sort of caught me off guard. She has a way with words, and the photographs of her family are just beautiful. I highly recommend it. And I highly recommend you read her blog as well. Shannon also wrote about her thoughts about the book just yesterday, and if you've read it I recommend joining in on the conversation.

I also just finished Summer Sisters, which I read for the second time. The last time I read it, I was far too young to understand the real power this book holds. This time I read it for book club, and I feel like it was more appropriate. It really made me think. It's an excellent summertime read.

And now I'm reading The History of Love, and it's hard to explain. It has interesting storylines, and everything feels it is coming together as I go on through it. There are so many things about it that are amazing and touching and thoughtful. So far? I really like it.

Watching.
{here}
I saw "First Position" a few weeks ago (ok, maybe a few months ago...), and it just blew my mind. These children are so talented, so driven. And the dancing is just beautiful. I loved every second of this documentary.

And in the same light, I loved this six-week series from the CW, "Breaking Pointe." It's over now, and I wish it had been a longer series. But again, the dedication kills me. And, of course, the crazy drama makes it equally addicting. Someone please tell me this show will come back at some point. Seriously. You can watch the episodes on the site or on the CW's app for iPad or iPhone.

Listening to.
I just love this song. I can feel a sense of calm whenever I listen to it. Plus I'm pretty jazzed to go and see him in September, the day before I go to see Florence + the Machine. Bomb.

So what have you been reading, watching and listening to lately?

  1. STOP IT. We were meant to be friends!

    First of all, Summer Sisters. SIGH. That is one of my all-time favorite books. I read it almost every summer, but I think I skipped last year, so I will have to make it a must read before this summer is over. Oh, Vix-- just love her.

    Also, History of Love has been on my to-read list for awhile. WIll get to it someday.

    and SECOND! Ballet!!! My dream! I have not seen either of these shows and I NEED to. I hardly watch any TV, although we do have one, so I will have to find these to watch soon! I wonder if Breaking Pointe is on Netflix? Or at least the CW website? Looking into it...

    Love this post! Thanks for all the great recs!

  8. As always...thanks so much for linking to me. But I am seriously jealous of how much you are reading. I wish I could spend more days curled up with a good book. For now I will just keep adding them my shelf where they collect dust.
