recipe: lemon and mango sorbets

Last week was kind of a bust of a work-week, ya know? The mid-week holiday totally threw everything off, so by Friday I just felt all out of sorts. Work felt kind of like a flop. Hardly anyone was showing up! So what did we do?

Make sorbet.

And it was easy as pie. So do yourself a favor: make your own sorbets.
Mango sorbet

2 mangos, peeled, pitted and pureed
1 cup water
3/4 cup + 1 T sugar
2 T lemon juice
1 T vodka

Combine the mango puree, water, sugar and lemon juice into a bowl and stir until the sugar has dissolved, and then add in the vodka (it lowers the freezing temperature). Pour into an ice cream machine and let it do its thang for about 30 minutes. Transfer to a medium-sized container and let it freeze for a few hours.

Lemon sorbet

2 t lemon zest
juice of 3 lemons
1 1/2 cups water
1 1/4 cup sugar
1 T vodka

Combine lemon zest, lemon juice, water and sugar in a bowl and stir until the sugar is dissolved, and then add in the vodka. Pour into an ice cream machine and again, let it do its thang for 30 minutes. Transfer to a container and let it freeze.

Nothing tastes better than fresh sorbet. The lemon is just the right amount of tart, and the mango has a great creaminess to it, almost like a gelato.

Greatest work day ever, hands down.
