recipe: browned butter rice krispie treats

Rice Krispie treats are kind of that baked good I always have in my back pocket. It's easy to make, but I only want to pull it out when absolutely necessary, because I feel like there's no real thought in making it. Krispies, marshmallow, butter, go. But these guys...these guys are a little bit special.

See, browned butter makes everything just significantly more delectable. Oh, and a dash of sea salt? Grown up treat delight.

Browned butter rice krispie treats
1 stick unsalted butter
10 oz marshmallows
1 T freshly cracked sea salt
6 cups rice krispies

Melt the butter in a sauce pan over medium-low heat. You'll need to keep an eye on it and stir it regularly. You're waiting for it to turn a brown color and smell sort of nutty. But you don't want it to burn, so watch it like a hawk! The time between browned butter and burned butter is very small. The second it's browned, turn off the heat and add in the marshmallows. The residual heat will melt the marshmallows. Add in the salt, then fold in the Rice Krispies. Pour the mixture into a buttered 8x8 pan and push the mixture into the sides with a silicon spatula. Let cool, then cut into pieces. 
So. Damn. Good.
