nine to five: kristen from the boston fashionista

Nine to Five is back! Thanks for dealing with our slight hiatus, but now we're back and raring to go! Oh, and starting next week, Nine to Five will be a link up! So get your looks ready, ladies.

This week's featured guest is the fabulous Kristen from The Boston Fashionista. I met her thanks to Bianca at a blogging event. Since then, I've been lusting after her fabulous wardrobe and trying to get more bold with my fashion picks like she is. She's all around awesome. Oh, and she's super sweet to boot. Make sure you head on over to Shannon's blog to find out her outfit details!
:: Describe your work environment from a style perspective (i.e. traditional business professional, stuffy corporate, laid back artsy, kid friendly, etc.) ::
I manage a basic science research department at a local university - the dress culture is really anything goes! I see it all, from post-docs in jeans and sneakers to my boss, who makes science look so chic in Jil Sander and Max Mara. I really allows for sartorial freedom.

:: What are your nine to five staples (go to brands, or key items)? ::
A chic, stylish briefcase to lug around my laptop and files (as well as other necessities, like my wallet, iPhone and lipstick)! My case is not in these photos because it is five years old and seriously bedraggled...I need some advice on where to buy a new bag now that Cross in Harvard Square has closed. Oh, and said case MUST be big enough to hold a pair of shoes; in addition to all the other items, I always have my work shoes and a pair of commuting shoes. [Note: Might I suggest Lo & Sons OMG?]

:: Does blogging make you a better employee at your day job? ::
My job is completely unrelated to fashion. However, on particularly rough days, I'll leave the office to go shoot outfit photos in the middle of the day. Usually, that thirty minutes is all I need to gain new perspective, and I come back to the office with new thoughts on how to face challenges.

:: Is blogging your main creative outlet, or do you also write novels, run marathons and knit all of your own sweaters? ::
I believe strongly in community service, and in encouraging fresh (and female!) voices to get involved. I volunteer on numerous political campaigns, and I sit on the Commission for Women in my town in addition to being an elected Town Meeting Member and Library Trustee.

:: How do you find time to do it all? When do you blog? ::
Like most women I know, I work best when I am busy! I mostly take outfit photos en route to/from work or on the weekends. I edit photos/write posts late at night when winding down in front of Animal Planet.

:: Finally, what have you been pinning lately? What are the items you are just dying to add to your work wardrobe? ::
This question inspired me to start a Pinterest Board (le Bureau) devoted to looks I might wear to the office and an office wish list. If I had to pick one new office wardrobe piece this season, it would be these wide leg Tibi silk pants in gold - gorgeous!

Thank you so much, Kristen, for joining us in this series! If you'd like to be featured on Nine to Five, feel free to email me! And make sure to tweet us your fashion faves!
