race recap: baa half marathon

Well, I did it. I finally found redemption from my sub-par half marathon performances (in Providence and Hyannis). The BAA half marathon was everything I wanted it to be and more. The weather was perfect; crisp air with sunshine that wasn't oppressive. I was surrounded by runners who were excited and nervous, ready to run a solid 13.1 miles. I had the greatest time.
me with bianca's dogs little greg and peggy sue pre-race.
I felt relaxed heading into the race, even though lines for the porta potties left me a bit anxious. With 7 minutes to go before guns went off, I decided to ditch the line and go to the bathroom in the woods. Whatever. I give no fucks. I made it to the start line with time to stretch and then before I knew it, we were off.

The miles flew by. I kept my music going through the race, loud enough so it could get me through the tough miles, but not so loud I didn't hear people cheering. I watched all kinds of people run past me. I didn't really care. I ran my own race. And I ran it well.
Two hours, 23 minutes and 49 seconds after I started the race, I crossed the finish line. And I was smiling and happy as a clam.

This race was, by far, my favorite one. I barely even noticed the hills as I went through, and it was so nice to see friends and family throughout the race. I got two medals on Sunday: one for completing the half marathon, and another for completing the inaugural BAA Distance Medley. It was a fun series of races, and I'm so glad I did all of them.

Thanks to everyone who wished me luck, who came to the race and who gave me high fives for finishing strong. You guys rock. Thanks for checking in on me and giving me support. Thanks for your faith in me.

So what's next? Hopefully a marathon, but we'll see about that. My legs are already itching to get back out for another race.

  5. holy amazing time. ive said it 29034823094 times but youre seriously so inspiring. I hate myself for giving up on running everrrry single time but I've never made it past 1 stupid mile and not to make an excuse but my asthma is so bad and it doesn't help things. To be able to say you could do this (and so well, too!) is such a huge accomplishment.
LOVE that picture of you with the dogs!
