marathon monday: 17 weeks

So the first week of official training is over. And...well...I sort of blew it.

Ok, so maybe I didn't blow it. But it wasn't the greatest training week ever. I sort of blew off my long run so I could go to NYC and do generally fabulous things with my fabulous friend. We had fun, but I forfeited 8-10 miles.

In the long run, I don't think this will ruin my training. I'm comfortable running longer distances, and I rocked out many 5-6 mile runs very early in the morning throughout the week. I felt strong, if not super speedy.

Fundraising is also beginning to look up. In the past two weeks I've gotten many great donations from wonderful people. Quite honestly, every time I receive a donation I'm immediately humbled. Because a lot of the people who are donating to me don't have a ton of close ties to me. They, to be frank, don't have any idea who I am. But they know Craig, my mom, my friends. And they decided that my cause was a worthy one. And for that, I am grateful in ways I could never properly verbalize.

So the first week wasn't stellar, but I sort of saw it as a way to bid adieu to my social life. Because in reality, I can't be drinking and then running the next morning, and after long runs I'm usually too tired to do much of anything. This doesn't mean I'm going to completely turn into a hermit (because let's be honest, I'm basically already one), but it does mean I'm going to be significantly more conscious of my running. And my team.
Also, churros are always a good idea. Just saying.

  1. Wow, running the Boston marathon is a big deal! I could never do it but have a lot of respect for people who do. Good luck with your training.

  5. Don't beat yourself up you are doing great!! Sometimes no matter what you will just have a bad run, even if you eat right and sleep well sometimes your body just won't go with it. You just have to remember that and celebrate all the good days. When I ran my marathon I went through phases where I stayed in and then ones where I went out a lot and I really don't think the going out hurt me that much :)
