marathon monday: 4 weeks

With less than one month until the big day, I decided to tackle something that's been daunting me since I began training: a 20-miler.
First of all, you have to be batshit crazy to be running 20 miles on a Saturday like it's not a big deal. But it wasn't. I got up, putzed around for a while, and hit the road at 8:45. Initially, I wanted to tackle 19 miles. I had decided 19 was a good step up from 17 miles. And then, somewhere in Wellesley, I decided that 20 miles was doable. I was feeling strong. So why stop at 9.5 miles and then turn around? I hit 10 somewhere around Wellesley College and felt...like a runner. So I turned around and ran the 10 miles home. And while they weren't super speedy miles, I did it. I ran for four hours and then it was over. I was 10K away from marathon glory.

It's kind of crazy, this marathon thing. As much as I picture race day in my head while I'm on my training runs, I know the day is going to be way better.

I've got one more 20+ mile run, and then it's time to taper. This has been quite the ride.

  2. You are amazing. Do you train by yourself? If so, that's even more amazing.

    1. I do indeed train alone; it's been hard sometimes, but I like the time to myself :)
