marathon monday: 5 weeks

This week was another bust.

Though I guess it wasn't really a bust. I decided to forgo a long run outside on Saturday since the snow storm left all of the sidewalks pretty slippery. The last thing I want is to blow out my knee or anything like that whilst running on the snow. So instead, I headed to my local gym, bought a day pass and worked it out in there for 2.5 hours.

Between the bike, elliptical and dreadmill, I was feeling it.
It's been over a year since I last set foot in a gym, so it was interesting. It was hot, I got bored, and I can honestly say I missed the road. I felt like time went so much slower in there.

With five weeks left until the race, I'm a bit nervous. I mean, this is a marathon. This is serious. I honestly can't believe I'm doing this. But, at the same time, I feel ready. I mean, I still need to get a 20 miler under my belt, but I'm still feeling optimistic about the race. It'd be awesome to finish in under 5 hours, but I'm not sweating it. I'm confident I'll be able to finish the race in a respectable time.

That's really all I can ask for.

  1. That's what I've been hating about my gym lately, especially if I go to run.. it's SO hot and dry in there! I get that it's cold outside but to have the heat so high when I'm gonna be working out is just wrong!

  2. I can handle the treadmill for about 3 miles. I definitely prefer to do my long runs outside. I can't believe you're only 5 weeks away! ahhhh!!!

  4. Agreed! Time creeps by in the gym. I don't ever want to run back on the treadmill again...

  5. You can do it! And this quote was always kind of motivational to me while I was training:

"In a long distance race, everyone gets tired. The winner is the runner who figures out where to put the tired. Figures out how to store it away until after the race is over. Sure, he's tired. Everyone is. That's not the point. The point is to Run."

I'm so excited for you!!! :)
