marathon monday: two weeks

this photo has nothing to do with running. sorry.
This week was hard. I was nursing a tender and tight hip all week, so I eased up on my running. I was so nervous I'd hurt myself even more if I tried to run, so I spent the week icing and stretching my hip. On Thursday, I finally hit the road and ended up limping through my run. It wasn't unbearable, but I definitely wasn't feeling right.

So I iced some more, and stretched some more. I popped some Aleve on Friday morning and went about my business. I went to a Forest yoga class on Friday afternoon, and the teacher focused on our hamstrings and hip flexors the whole time. When I left, I felt tentatively good. When I walked, there was no pain.

On Saturday morning, I contemplated a 15-miler. I figured I'd take Toby out for a 4 mile run, then drop him off at home and continue on. While I was out with Toby, I didn't feel great. But there wasn't a ton of visible pain. Just a twinge. My legs were excited to be out there again, but I didn't want to push it. I forfeited 11 more miles and biked for a while instead.

I'm at the point in my training where I don't want to risk ruining all of this. More than anything, I'd like to cross the finish line in two weeks. I don't even care about how quickly I do this. I want to enjoy every second of the race. So I've gradually become ok with this sub-par running week.

My hip feels much better now, so I have high hopes for the next two weeks of running. I've raised nearly $4,000 for Dana-Farber in the last sixteen weeks. There's still time for me to reach my goal. If you can, I'd really appreciate any donation. Because ultimately, through this crazy marathon thing, I'm trying to contribute toward finding a cure for cancer. Could you imagine a world without cancer?
