a post on food (or why i'm going back to paleo)

Let's talk about food for a second. It's no surprise that I love carbs, and quite honestly would eat some form of them every day if I could. And I did that for a while following the marathon.

Leading up to the marathon, when I was logging 35-45 miles per week of running, I could afford to eat more carbs than most people need in a week. Pasta dinner? Heck yeah! I need fuel for running! Bread with my dinner? YOU BET! I need to refuel from my 20-mile run this morning.

It didn't really negatively affect me leading up to the marathon. But once the marathon came and went, I kept my eating habits the same. And that's where my problem started.

I've gained some weight recently. I do not use a scale (it triggers my extreme food behaviors), so I have no idea exactly how much I've gained. But to me, it's noticeable. And I started feeling so tired all the time. A few days ago, I had finally had enough. I was sick of feeling like crap about myself and my eating habits. So back to paleo I went.

I've decided to do a modified paleo diet. It's not reasonable for me to commit 100 percent to the diet. I like alcohol. I don't want to limit myself in social situations or be a huge pain every time my friends want to go out to dinner. So my goal is 80/20. Everything in moderation, right?

I've been hunting through Nom Nom Paleo for meal ideas, and have embraced having lots of veggies with my breakfast (sauteed peppers man!). Anyone have any other recommendations of places to look for meal ideas?
buy me!
And, of course, I've been referencing this book. It's basically my new bible. For realsies.

  4. I am always trying to incorporate more veggies into my meals as well. My fiance plays professional soccer, so he is always wanting me to cook him healthy meals. I have found a lot of great recipes on Pinterest! :)

  5. I totally feel you! Things have been really crazy with our move and I've been eating like crap...which then makes me look/feel like crap. I feel the same way about Paleo, I am never going to be able to commit 100% but even eating 70-80% Paleo makes me feel SO much better, so I too am trying to get back on track. Also, I have that cookbook and love it--have you made the Pad Thai yet? If not, you need to ASAP!! So freaking good.

  7. I feel like I would most deffff benefit from cutting out the carbs in my life, my energy level is just crazy low lately and I am 97% sure that's why. I think you're going about Paleo the right way-- my friends are doing the same thing right now... sticking to it as much as they can, but allowing themselves to cheat during social situations :) They've stuck to it enough though that they are definitely feeling healthier all around!
