GUYS. Racing is the greatest. And racing with a bunch of awesome ladies? EVEN BETTER. Monday was the Tufts Health Plan 10K for Women. It was a glorious Boston day, full of sunshine and LADIES.
Ok, so not all ladies, but lots of them. I actually ran the race with Max. He's basically my brother. His parents are my godparents and we grew up together. And by that I mean we yelled and screamed at each other and he threw things at my head. And now he lives down the street from me and we're running races together. No big deal.
The race started at noon, which is way later than I like to start races, but it ended up being ok. It got a little hotter than I would have liked, but you know what? Running in sunshine sure as hell beats running in rain. So we started off right at noon, lead by the AMAZING Joan Benoit Samuelson. We kicked it off, and did a nice little loop through Back Bay, over the Mass Ave bridge into Cambridge, a few miles on Memorial Drive, and then back into Back Bay.
AND THEN I PR'D. By almost three minutes. I clocked in at 1:00:25 and I'm pretty darn pleased with that. It felt so good to cross the finish line so quickly. I'm hoping that my next 10K will be under an hour. Fingers. Crossed.
Overall, it was a nice flat course filled with some of the most amazing sites in Boston, including the Pru and our famous Citgo sign. I'll definitely be running this race again. And again.
Congrats on the PR! And yay for lady races!
ReplyDeleteThis post made me realize that I have never run a 10K before. Weird.
10Ks are a weird distance. But i like 'em :)
DeleteNo way! I ran it too, for the second time. It's quickly becoming one of my favorite races- the course is lovely, and all those ladies are so inspiring!
ReplyDeleteyou are inspiring and I know I grilled you before about running but I just don't think it's something I will ever do which makes me admire people like you even more. rock on Alex. rock on.
